Chelsea were dealt a big stroke of luck away to Ajax two weeks ago – and can take full advantage of it by winning again to seize control of Champions League Group H.

We predicted the Blues would win in Amsterdam at odds of 21/10 and they duly did so, but only after Ajax forward Quincy Promes had a first-half goal wrongly disallowed for offside when VAR was revealed to have adjudicated on the wrong replay frame!

Ultimately, substitute Michy Batshuayi’s goal in the 86th minute proved decisive to give Chelsea a 1-0 victory that meant they joined Ajax on six points at the top of the Group H table and significantly boosted their chances of reaching the knockout stage.

Now for the reverse fixture and if Frank Lampard’s side can triumph again, they will be well on course to advance as winners of this pool even though Valencia, their match-day one conquerors at Stamford Bridge, can stay two points behind them by beating Lille at home.

Despite losing at home to Manchester United in the Carabao Cup last week, Chelsea’s form remains strong with eight wins out of nine in all competitions, while Ajax’s defeat two weeks ago was their only loss this term.

Last season’s Champions League semi-finalists clearly remain a considerable force, but Chelsea’s young team still appear to be going from strength to strength and they are backed to edge another narrow victory.
