Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne City Match Preview

Melbourne City travel to Gosford for their Matchday 24 clash at Central Coast Mariners on Friday looking to prove their worth against the rock-bottomed rivals, hoping they can outclass them and keep hold of the 2nd spot – after snatching the points in a five-goal thriller at Perth Glory and coming away with a point despite falling behind early against Western Sydney Wanderers.

City have Wellington Phoenix breathing down their necks and Erick Mombaerts will hope his men can take confidence from recent performances, despite obvious struggles to retain consistency on the road. They’ve been conceding goals on the regular but found their shape up front, where Jamie MacLaren leads the line and has done so with a goal against Wanderers too.

Central Coast Mariners will have their regrets and will certainly feel they performed better than the results would suggest. However, they’re now just a loss short of their worst streak ever with nine consecutive losses suffered since mid-January, which has them rock-bottomed with just 13 points to their name.

Mariners have been scoring goals in front of the home fans but found it hard to capitalize, with nine goals conceded in the last three outings here – where Western Sydney Wanderers (1-3), Sydney (0-3), and Wellington Phoenix (1-3) all snatched the points. They will now need to show more and we don’t see them up to the task.

We should be in for an exciting occasion but we feel visitors should have what it takes to snatch the points, as we back Melbourne City to win and a Yes on Both teams to score at an eye-catching 2/1 with bet365 – which has caught the eye of many value seekers already.

With that in mind, we’re hoping for another high-scoring occasion at Central Coast Stadium and we’ll now also go for Over 2.5 Goals FT at 4/7 with Paddy Power. We’ve been used to such games from both sides lately and we’re now hoping for more of the same.
