Celtic vs St Mirren Match Preview
After finishing the year with a 1-0 loss at Rangers and failing to bounce back in a friendly clash at Arbroath (4-3), Celtic bagged a 3-0 FA Cup win over Airdrieonians on Saturday with goals from Scott Sinclair (x2) and Timothy Weah and now host St Mirren looking to build on the success.
Bhoys have Rangers, Kilmarnock, and Aberdeen all breathing down their necks after 20 games played and they’ll want to use every chance to build on the gap. They’ve been in great shape at home ground and netted nine goals in last three outings, which should have them very motivated to outclass the struggling visitors.
Indeed, St Mirren have struggled to make an impact in Premiership and we’ve seen them bag just 12 points in 21 outings. They have an FA Cup win of their own over the weekend, where they beat Alloa Athletic (3-2) with three goals in the final half-hour to complete a comeback.
Buddies have been scoring goals on the regular but struggled for consistency on the road and this could be even more worrying ahead of the tough trip to Celtic Park. Celtic have kept clean sheets in ten of their 14 home outings since late August and we should now see them just as motivated to do the same.
We will thus back the Bhoys to do so and we’ll go for a Home win to Nil at 4/9 with Betfair, which feels like buying money for old rope seeing the difference in depth of quality and ambition at this point.
We still feel we should be in for goals with a one-sided contest looming, which also has us going for Over 2.5 Goals FT at 1/2 with Ladbrokes – rated a banker bet by many in the know as well.
