Celtic vs St Johnstone Match Preview
Celtic have been rather convincing through the Champions League Qualifiers so far and they now host St Johnstone as they open the new Premiership campaign on Saturday afternoon looking to build on such records – in search of a perfect start of the campaign which could bring them the ninth consecutive title.
Bhoys have beaten Nomme Kalju on Tuesday to make it through to the 3rd Qualifying Round on the back of a 7-0 aggregate win, with a lot to build on as they looked very stable at the back recently but seemingly put the foot off the gas pedal in Tallinn. Neil Lennon should thus have no troubles lifting their team spirits and we expect them in great shape.
St Johnstone will have to look for an upset but they’ve hardly seemed up to the challenge lately, as they bagged just one win (4-0 over Brechin City) in four League Cup outings since mid-July – with losses to Montrose 1-0), Ross County (1-2), and Forfar Athletic (2-1) also seen along the way.
Saints have thus struggled to keep hold of their consistency at the back and this has proven costly, which will obviously be a problem ahead of the trip to Celtic Park too. They haven’t really been able to cope with the dominant rivals lately and we don’t see them doing so now.
We will thus back Celtic to their sixth consecutive win over St Johnstone and to do so with confidence, as we go for a Home win to Nil at 4/6 with Ladbrokes – which feels like a generous banker bet at the moment.
Indeed, Celtic have finally impressed at the back and it’s thus rather easy to make a case for such a contest on Saturday. However, with a one-sided contest looming, we still expect to see goals and we’ll thus also go for Over 2.5 Goals FT at Evens with William Hill.
