Celtic vs Nomme Kalju Predictions
Celtic made it to the Third Round of Champions League qualifying last year before losing out to Greek side AEK Athens and entering the Europa League instead. This year, they’re back in Champions League qualifying after winning the Scottish Premiership title once again last term and they’ve already made it through one round of qualifying by beating Bosnian outfit FK Sarajevo by a 5-2 aggregate scoreline.
With dominance expected on the domestic scene, it’s important for the Bhoys to make progress in Europe alongside winning more trophies this season. They have history in this competition too, having been the first British side to lift the famous trophy back in 1967. With the quality that they have in their current day squad, the Hoops should have very few problems in winning the first leg of this tie at odds of 1/20 with Novibet.
Nomme Kalju are not a name that has the same history on the European football scene as Celtic. Having only been reformed 22 years ago, the club has won the Estonian Meistriliiga on just two occasions, including last season, and have never managed to reach as far as the group stages of either the Champions League or the Europa League despite competing in Europe in 10 separate seasons.
We’re currently half-way through the Meistriliiga campaign in which the Pink Panthers look unlikely to retain their title as they currently occupy 4th place in the table, 12 points off the lead with 16 fixtures remaining. They did however manage to overcome Macedonian outfit Shkendija on away goals in the first round of Champions League qualifying – can they now stun Celtic Park in the second round with a first leg win at 25/1 at Bet365.
Nomme Kalju may put up slightly more of a fight than the bookmakers are anticipating here. We think Celtic should have enough quality to win this game with a degree of ease, but against Sarajevo they conceded in both legs and it’s worth noting that the Estonian side haven’t lost a game by more than three goals in any of their last 21 outings. The Bhoys should win comfortably but we’re backing Nomme Kalju to keep it below a four goal margin at 7/10 with Ladbrokes.
Odsonne Edouard is the main goal threat in this Celtic side. The 21 year old scored 23 times in all competitions last season and he has already opened his account for this term by getting on the scoresheet in that victory over FK Sarajevo. We’re backing the Frenchman to open the scoring in this game at odds of 12/5 with Coral.
