Celtic vs Hibernian Match Preview
Hibernian had a decent record against Celtic under their recently-departed manager Neil Lennon and must now try to continue it with caretaker boss Eddie May in charge.
Lennon, who of course enjoyed a highly successful 11 years in total with Celtic as player and manager, left Hibs following reports of internal conflict at the club and also amid a general downturn of results this season.
They did, however, achieve an excellent 2-0 win over Celtic at Easter Road in December and this was a head-to-head you got the feeling Lennon was always able to get his players up for.
That was by no means an isolated success either because Hibs have lost only two of their last six league meetings with the Scottish champions, although they have tended to fare better at home.
May, who had a spell as Falkirk boss and is now head of Hibernian’s academy, says he does not want the manager’s job and after a win and a defeat under his guidance, the favourites for the full-time role at the time of writing were Gordon Strachan and Paul Heckingbottom.
As the stats above reveal, Celtic are going great guns at present without the distraction of European football and have a six-point lead at the top of the table after 24 rounds of matches.
But Hibs have done no worse than lose by one goal on eight of their last 11 visits to Parkhead, even well before Lennon was the Edinburgh club’s manager, and so odds-against for it to happen again appeals considerably.
