Cardiff City vs Chelsea Match Preview

Chelsea have failed to win their last two Premier League games and need to beat relegation-threatened Cardiff to boost their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Maurizio Sarri’s side entered the weekend as the outsiders among the top six to qualify for next season’s Champions League via the domestic table although, like Arsenal, they do have the fallback route of winning the Europa League after reaching the quarter-finals.

The Blues have been finding their continental commitments easier of late, having blown away Dinamo Kiev twice but drawn at home to Wolves and lost 2-0 away to Everton in their final match before the international break.

This is not an easy fixture against a Cardiff team whose home form this term has been respectable, but it’s their results on the road that have left the Welsh club in the drop zone.

Cardiff have not played for 22 days since they beat West Ham, so the momentum from that victory may well have dissipated and, perhaps more importantly, they have lost all of their eight matches so far against the clubs in the top six.

With a visit to title-chasing Manchester City in midweek this is a match the Bluebirds must try to get something from, but their form against the big guns points to Chelsea being the best bet here to boost their own top-four prospects.
