Caen vs Nantes Match Preview
Caen host Nantes for their Matchday 23 clash on Wednesday evening looking for important points in a bottom-of-the-table derby contest, desperate for points to escape the danger zone as they sit above Monaco and Amiens only for their goal difference ahead of their weekend trip to Stade de la Licorne.
Fabien Mercadal’s men come off a thriller Coupe de France win over Bastia (on penalties after a 2-2 draw) and Cup success will surely serve as a confidence booster, despite their struggles for Ligue 1 points seeing their status in danger midway through the campaign – expecting a tough battle to keep hold of it.
Nantes have seen similar woes and sit just six points clear of the rivals ahead of their weekend clash against Nimes, which will have them just as desperate for any consistency. They’ve bagged Coupe de France wins over Entente SSG (0-1) and Toulouse (2-0) beforehand and Vahid Halilhodzic will want to build on such performances.
Canaries have struggled to impress on the road, though, and the narrow win over struggling 3rd division rivals only ended a streak of five away losses in a row. Halilhodzic hasn’t been able to find a cure for their goalscoring troubles and this could prove even more worrying, promising another narrow occasion in the making.
We will stick our necks out for the sides to share the spoils and going for a Draw at 21/10 with Unibet feels like more than a lively longshot, as both struggle to score on the regular and turn clashes their way.
With that in mind, we expect few goals and we’ll also back Under 2.5 Goals FT at 8/13 with Grosvenor, which has been rated buying money for old rope by many in the know. Indeed, we’ve seen such occasions in all of Nantes’ last seven outings and this does look like further evidence for such a bet.
