Burnley vs Southampton Match Preview
Burnley were denied a famous midweek victory at Manchester United in the dying seconds, but can make amends by easing their relegation fears against Southampton.
The Clarets got their tactics spot-on at Old Trafford, defending superbly and nicking a couple of goals by pressing their opponents high up the pitch. At least it worked until the last few minutes when United’s dominance produced two late goals and forced a 2-2 draw.
But Burnley are now unbeaten in their last five league games, banishing their poor form of earlier in the season, and they will see this match as one in which they can build up a bigger buffer between themselves and the relegation zone.
These are the two clubs that will most be hoping the current bottom three of Huddersfield, Fulham and Cardiff remain that way and while Southampton have become harder to beat since Ralph Hasenhuttl’s appointment as manager in early December, they have perhaps not improved quite as much under the Austrian as had been hoped.
The midweek 1-1 draw at home to Crystal Palace was a fair reflection of both those teams’ current merits.
If anything, Burnley are looking a better side than Southampton at present and with home advantage they are fancied to leapfrog Saints in the table with a victory.
