Burnley vs Leicester City Match Preview

Brendan Rodgers got up and running as Leicester City’s new manager with his first victory last weekend and is backed to follow up against an increasingly worried Burnley side.

After an initial defeat at Watford, Rodgers tasted success by a 3-1 margin at home to Fulham which, in itself, did not necessarily hail great things ahead because the Foxes’ opponents that day are seemingly doomed to relegation.

But at least it confirmed Leicester are well capable of taking care of teams struggling towards the bottom of the table – and that unquestionably now includes Burnley, who have slipped back into a position where they have increasing fears of the dreaded drop.

Results across the Premier League could hardly have been worse for the Clarets last weekend as they lost 4-2 at Liverpool whereas Cardiff, Southampton, Brighton and Newcastle all won, leaving Sean Dyche’s team only one place and two points above the relegation zone.

Moreover, Burnley have suffered three straight defeats with nine goals conceded – and this is no time to be plummeting into an irreversibly poor run of form.

In contrast, Leicester can still harbour hopes of challenging for a finishing position of seventh, which may well yield European football, and Rodgers can give further evidence that he was the right man to replace Claude Puel by guiding his side to back-to-back wins.
