Bulgaria vs England Predictions
Bulgaria’s chances of reaching a first major tournament finals since 2004 are over as they sit bottom of Group A in qualifying for the 2020 European Championships. Once a major force in international football, even reaching the semi-finals of the World Cup in the USA back in 1994, the Lions have regressed over recent years and are now at arguably the lowest ebb in their history and down at 62 in the FIFA World Rankings.
This qualifying campaign has been nothing short of a disaster for head coach Krasimir Balakov, who arrived in May following draws in the team’s opening two games of the section against Kosovo and Montenegro. The former Kaiserslautern boss has seen his side lose four and draw one of his five games in charge so far, stretching their overall unbeaten run to ten games. Can they pick up a shock three points here at odds of 16/1 with Coral.
England’s ten year unbeaten run in qualifiers came to an end on Friday night as they were beaten 2-1 by the Czech Republic in Prague. Fortunately for Gareth Southgate and his side, that defeat is unlikely to change much in terms of the way the group is set as they retain top spot ahead of Repre on goal difference and with a game in hand and on paper they should ease to nine points from their remaining three fixtures here.
Given that it has been so long since the Three Lions were beaten in a qualifying fixture though, questions have been asked in the days following that defeat in Prague. With some out-of-form players still selected and playing poorly, Southgate now has some decisions to make over the future direction of his team, but he’ll be hoping they can at least bounce back to winning ways here as expected at odds of 1/14 with Bet365.
We expect them to do exactly that and to do so with ease here. The reverse fixture at Wembley Stadium ended 4-0 to the Three Lions and their opponents have managed to score just one goal in their last three matches, so we can’t see them troubling England’s leaky defence too much here. Southgate’s men have been conceding plenty of goals recently, but they should be too strong for the hosts’ lack of attacking quality so we’re on the away win to nil at 8/11, again with Bet365.
Raheem Sterling is one player who is unlikely to be dropped by the manager in this game. The Manchester City forward has racked up six goals in seven Premier League appearances so far this season and although his England record isn’t perhaps as prolific as it should be, it has improved of late. The 24 year old has scored eight times in his last ten international outings, we’re on 11/10 for him to be on the scoresheet again here with Ladbrokes.
