Bristol City vs Wigan Match Preview

A 1-0 success at Middlesbrough on Tuesday night moved Bristol City back into fifth as their rollercoaster season continues. Along with Derby, they are the only team in the play-off chase who still have eight games remaining. Five of these eight are against teams in the table between fourth and 12^thand rivals for a top six finish.

At Ashton Gate, the Robins are three without a victory including defeat in two of these and a draw against Ipswich. Confidence will be high though after back-to-back road victories and prior to this run they were seven unbeaten at their place. They are not one of the highest scoring teams at their own place with a combined 41 goals here this season.

Wigan have taken four points from their last two fixtures to help their relegation worries but it is still tight at the bottom. They sit 20^thjust four points above Rotherham who currently occupy the final drop-zone spot. The Lancashire outfit now have a tough run of five fixtures in a row against top 12 opponents.

Away from the DW Stadium, the Latics have been awful this season with no side losing more than the 15 road games that they have. Only Blackburn have conceded more goals on the road than the 38 they have shipped. They have seen four of their last five on their travels feature both teams netting.

I am surprised by the prices on offer on a home win and think this looks the value call given the home and away form of both sides. Wigan have lost 15 of 19 on the road this season and a confident Robins are the selection here.

The Robins played three at the back in midweek and this formation allowed Jay Da Silva to play as an attacking win-back and he was excellent making one goal and registering a couple of decent shots. He might be worth chancing here to get on the scoresheet against a Wigan side shipping goals.
