Brighton vs West Ham United Match Preview
Brighton began the 2019-20 Premier League season with a result beyond their wildest dreams last weekend and will be hoping for more of the same when they host West Ham United.
Graham Potter’s appointment for his first English top-flight managerial role was not universally hailed as a wise move, but the man poached from Swansea made a brilliant start by guiding his new club to a 3-0 triumph at Watford.
Although the Brighton line-up was largely similar to last season’s, when the Seagulls finished immediately above the relegation zone under Chris Hughton, they looked much more vibrant for Potter with a far greater attacking threat.
In contrast, West Ham took a 5-0 beating at home to Manchester City, after which their manager Manuel Pellegrini bemoaned his side being too passive when their opponents were on the attack rather than committing a tactical foul as the English champions are prone to do.
But that was a result not out of the ordinary for the Hammers, who regularly lose heavily to City, and more is expected to be seen here of their £24million summer Spanish midfield signing Pablo Fornals, who made his debut as a half-time substitute last week.
Results on the opening day of the season can often give a false impression of teams’ prospects and we think there will be much more balance on this occasion, with a draw looking a likely outcome at the Amex Stadium.
