Brighton vs Southampton Match Preview
Brighton & Hove Albion are looking to avoid relegation back to the Championship as their second season in the Premier League has gone much the way of the first. Although very difficult to break down in front of their own supporters and capable of upsetting some of the bigger names in the division at times, the Seagulls really struggle to make an impact on the road and as such are always floating precariously close to the drop zone in the top tier.
A recent run of form that has seen Chris Hughton’s men pick up four wins (including the penalty victory over Millwall) will have eased relegation worries somewhat as well as helping to fire the team into the semi-finals of the FA Cup where they will face Manchester City next month. Having drawn all three of their previous Premier League meetings with Southampton they’ll be out to pick up all three points this time at 31/20 with William Hill.
Southampton have been struggling towards the foot of the Premier League table again this season. The Hampshire outfit only managed to escape the relegation zone mathematically on the final day of the season last time around and despite managing to keep the club in the Premier League last term, Welsh boss Mark Hughes suffered a dreadful start to the new campaign and found himself sacked just a few months in with his side languishing in the relegation zone.
His replacement, former RB Leipzig boss Ralph Hassenhuttl, has instilled a more positive approach in his players so far but they remain struggling towards the bottom end of the table with just two points separating them from 18th placed Cardiff City with eight league fixtures remaining. Having already beaten Brighton in the EFL Cup this term can the Saints overcome them in the Premier League this time at 11/5 with Bet365.
We’re backing goals in this game. Brighton haven’t failed to score in their last seven games in all competitions, with the experienced Glenn Murray continuing to be a real threat at the forefront of their attack. Southampton meanwhile have only failed to score in one of their last 11 matches in all competitions and with the likes of Danny Ings and Charlie Austin in their ranks they are more of a threat going forward than they were in years gone by. BTTS is priced at 21/20 with William Hill.
With the home advantage, we can see Brighton picking up three points in this game. The Seagulls are in the better form of the two sides and have been better in front of their own fans since being promoted to the Premier League. Southampton meanwhile have struggled somewhat away and although these two sides are well-matched we expect those components to play a part in a narrow home win by one goal at 3/1 with PaddyPower.
