Brighton vs Leicester City Match Preview
Leicester are rekindling memories of their Premier League title-winning season with their current sparkling form – and are backed to make it nine wins out of 10 away to Brighton.
Rather than a spectacular surge built on sudden momentum, as was the case four years ago, the Foxes are basing their success on gradual improvement under a manager, Brendan Rodgers, who clearly knows what he is doing – the Northern Irishman has certainly not ‘lucked in’ to anything.
Second in the table during the international break, whether Leicester (and third-placed Chelsea, for that matter) can be considered true title contenders depends on Liverpool’s form over the next few months as they trail the leaders by eight points.
But if they can keep winning with similar regularity, a return to the Champions League is the least Rodgers’ side can expect – and if they can keep hold of most of their best players, there may be no big drop-off in performance next term as there was in the campaign after they became champions.
We expect Leicester to beat Brighton, who have reeled off three consecutive home league wins and will be pleased to sit comfortably in mid-table with seven points already between them and the relegation zone.
The Seagulls will not be easy to take down, but the way in which Leicester passed a serious test at home to Arsenal in their latest game with a 2-0 triumph suggests they are at the top end of the table to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.
