Brighton vs Burnley Match Preview
This match is the somewhat surprising choice for Saturday evening live TV coverage – and it’s unlikely to have been picked in the expectation of a goalfest.
Since this became a Premier League fixture last season, Burnley defender James Tarkowski is the only player to have scored a goal in his club’s three games against Brighton.
And we doubt it will be much different this time. Brighton have failed to score a goal in their three 2019 home matches and the last four contests staged at the Amex Stadium have seen the net bulged only twice.
Burnley, in fairness, are in decent league form. Ashley Barnes’ last-gasp penalty equaliser at home to Southampton last weekend extended their unbeaten run in the league to six matches and they were only denied victory at Old Trafford recently by a Manchester United double late salvo.
There can be no let-up by the Clarets either because they remain the team most immediately in danger if Cardiff, who won last weekend, get on a roll in their bid to extricate themselves from the relegation zone.
Brighton are nowhere near safe themselves and Burnley will draw level on points with them if they win on this trip to the south coast.
That prospect is a possibility because one goal could potentially decide this game, but the draw appeals just a little bit more due to how cagey the match is likely to be.
