Brighton vs Bournemouth Match Preview

Both of these south coast clubs are on poor runs of form, but ultimately we think Bournemouth have the greater quality and look decent value to gain a much-needed win.

The Cherries are experiencing the opposite kind of season to usual, in that they started well but have faded badly since November. Previously they have improved as the campaign has gone on, but this time have lost 17 of their last 25 matches to fall to 13th position in the table.

But Eddie Howe’s side are still five points clear of Brighton, who admittedly have two games in hand. Like Bournemouth, the Seagulls have not won since March 9 and failed to score a goal in their last three matches.

Chris Hughton’s team were plucky in their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final loss to Manchester City last weekend, at least having a go without being terribly threatening, but the fear remains that their Premier League future will be short-term unless they improve their squad this summer.

In contrast, Bournemouth have several excellent attacking players, but their downturn has led to murmurings of discontent and Howe could have a job on his hands to keep the likes of Callum Wilson, Josh King, Ryan Fraser and David Brooks at the club for much longer.

That quartet have not made much impact in the last couple of games, but they stack up well in comparison to Brighton’s team and we will count on Bournemouth’s star men to produce the goods this time and leave their opponents still concerned for their top-flight safety.
