Brentford vs Derby Match Preview

Brentford saw their winless run stretched to four in midweek as they went down 3-0 on the road to Swansea. They are down to 13^thand the gap between them and the play-offs is ten points. Thomas Frank is likely to use the rest of the campaign to work out what he needs for next season.

At Griffin Park, the Bees have been a much different team to the one on the road and their 11 home wins is the joint-fourth best record in the league. They have won six of their last eight and their place with the other two being a draw with Norwich and a defeat to West Brom. They have scored 40 goals at their own place this season which is only bettered by three sides.

Derby were rampant winners at the weekend as a 6-1 defeat of Rotherham was led by a Martyn Waghorn hat-trick. The result stretched their unbeaten run to four and means they sit seventh in the table. Crucially though the East Midlands outfit have a game in hand of Villa in sixth who are just one point above them.

Away from Pride Park, the Rams are struggling having taken just two points from their last five fixtures. Four of these five sides though were against teams in the top-half of the table with four of their remaining five against bottom 12 teams. A lack of road goals is a concern having netted just once in their last five on their travels.

As strong as Brentford have been at home this season I cannot bring myself to back them at those odds given they have little to play for. Derby were flattered by the scoreline at Rotherham but it will still have done their confidence a world of good.

I’m going to go with goals as I think the Bees might play with the handbrake off and try entertain their fans with the rest of the season left to play. Over 2.5 goals seems a little short but over 3.5 goals looks worth a play as does backing over 1.5 goals in the second-half alone.
