Brentford vs Barnet Match Preview
Barnet put up a terrific fight in the original match of this tie, but their quest to reach the FA Cup fifth round for the first time looks set to fall short.
In the first ‘Battle of the Bees’ – both clubs have that nickname – all six goals were scored within a 35-minute spell either side of the break and Shaquile Coulthirst’s quickfire double that put Barnet ahead threatened to cause an upset against a team from three divisions higher.
Ultimately, Barnet needed an equaliser from Dan Sparkes to earn a second bite of the cherry at Griffin Park and you have to suspect the National League club’s best chance of advancing to unchartered territory has now gone.
Before Saturday’s Championship match at home to Blackburn, Brentford had compiled an eight-game unbeaten run including three wins out of four at Griffin Park.
Thomas Frank’s side have failed to justify the big pre-season gamble on them to be promoted, not helped by the departure of manager Dean Smith to Aston Villa, but they have certainly turned a corner in terms of form since just before Christmas.
Given the way the first game turned out, Brentford look a very short price here. But they should win quite comfortably on their own pitch and as the 3-3 draw meant 16 goals had been scored in their three most recent matches up to that point, this one could be high-scoring too.
