Brazil vs Peru Match Preview
Brazil have based their bid to regain the Copa America title on solid defending and are backed to enjoy another shutout against Peru before lifting the trophy.
Liverpool keeper Alisson has not conceded a goal since his club side’s win at Newcastle in early May and has now recorded nine consecutive shutouts, five of them at this tournament as Brazil have yet to be breached.
One of those was in a 5-0 group-stage rout of Peru, who nevertheless advanced to the quarter-finals as the best third-placed team and have taken full advantage by subsequently getting past Uruguay, on penalties, and defending champions Chile.
The latter success in the semi-finals was particularly impressive, 3-0, but beating Brazil in the iconic Maracana Stadium would represent another big step up for the Incas, considering how easily they were swept aside in Sao Paulo two weeks ago.
Peru can only really hope they are able to thwart Brazil like Paraguay did in the quarter-finals, that match ending 0-0 before Tite’s men prevailed on penalties. But it did need the Paraguay goalkeeper to produce the performance of his life.
However, after beating Argentina in the semis, Brazil must feel as though it is undoubtedly their turn to become kings of South America for the first time since 2007 and they are fancied to beat plucky Peru comfortably.
