Brazil vs Paraguay Predictions
Brazil are expected to win this summer’s Copa America for a handful of reasons. Not only do they appear to have the most balanced squad on paper, but they’re also the South American side that went further in last summer’s World Cup and they remain unbeaten in 13 matches since that Quarter Final exit to Belgium in Russia. Furthermore, the Selecao have the home advantage of the hosts of the tournament.
With all this in mind, it’s no surprise that Canarinhos topped their group with relative ease. A 3-0 thumping of Bolivia was followed up by a disappointing goalless draw against Venezuela, but Tite’s men returned to form to end the group sages by picking up an assured 0-5 victory over Peru and secure the top spot. Now, they’re expected to overcome Paraguay too and you can back them to do so at 2/11 with Bet365.
Paraguay have not been champions of the Copa America since 1979 and indeed they’ve only made it as far as the final four stage on three occasions since then. Los Guaranies have enjoyed some moments of success in the intervening years, but it’s been a difficult few years and they’re in pretty poor form coming into this tournament and they’ve managed just one win in their last 11 matches in all competitions.
And yet despite this, Eduardo Berizzo’s men have managed to make it through to the knock-out stages by virtue of being one of the best-placed third place finishers in the group stages. They drew with newcomers Qatar before holding Lionel Messi’s Argentina to a tie and then ending the group with a defeat to Colombia, but still progressed with two points. Can they cause the shock of the tournament here at 18/1 with Spreadex?
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable victory for the hosts of the tournament in this game. With the home advantage and the far superior squad, I’m anticipating a similar margin of victory to those that they enjoyed against both Peru and Bolivia in the group stages, particularly given that Paraguay are in dreadful form at the moment and didn’t keep a clean sheet in any of their group group stage fixtures. Brazil -2 are priced at 6/4 with PaddyPower.
Tite’s men have been stronger perhaps than expected defensively, with the head coach making them a difficult unit to break down at the back. As such, Canarinhos have kept three clean sheets so far in the tournament and they shouldn’t have too many problems in keeping out a Paraguay outfit that has consistently struggled for goals in the last few years. We’re backing Brazil to win to nil at odds of 6/10 with Ladbrokes.
