Brazil vs Colombia Match Preview
Brazil return to action after this summer’s Copa America triumph by resuming their Global Tour with two matches in the United States, the first of which is against Colombia in Miami.
The Global Tour refers to Brazil playing friendly games all around the world and the only time they have been beaten in a non-competitive fixture since 2013 was when they lost 1-0 to Argentina in Melbourne in June 2017.
Tite’s side will have been delighted to give their football-mad country a first major title since 2007 when they lifted the Copa America in July, helped considerably by being hosts of the tournament and also a very favourable draw apart from meeting Argentina in the semi-finals.
For the friendly matches against Colombia and then Copa America runners-up Peru in Los Angeles on Tuesday, coach Tite has named a 23-man squad which includes uncapped Real Madrid youngster Vinicius Junior as well as Premier League quartet Roberto Firmino and Fabinho (both Liverpool), Richarlison (Everton) and goalkeeper Ederson (Manchester City).
Colombia lost on penalties to Chile in the quarter-finals of the Copa America, bowing out even though they have not conceded a goal in any of their last six matches under manager Carlos Queiroz who took over in February.
That superb defensive record suggests Colombia will not be easily broken down here even by Brazil, but the South American champions are still expected to have the attacking quality to edge a narrow victory.
