Brazil vs Argentina Match Preview
Brazil have yet to concede a goal during the 2019 Copa America, but now face what will be much their biggest test as they try to become champions of their continent for the first time since 2007.
The host nation have enjoyed a charmed draw on their way to the semi-finals but won only twice, easily against Bolivia and Peru, while being held to 0-0 draws by Venezuela and Paraguay, beating the latter on penalties to reach the last four.
Argentina have also won two out of four, taking only one point from their opening pair of matches against Colombia and Paraguay but subsequently looking like they are getting into top gear with back-to-back 2-0 victories in which Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez opened the scoring each time.
Both of these big rivals are craving Copa America success because they have not won any of the last three editions between them, with Argentina’s drought stretching back to 1993 – which, of course, is a long time before Lionel Messi et al burst onto the scene.
Whoever prevails in Belo Horizonte will automatically be hot favourites for the final against Peru or Chile – the latter, of course, bidding for a three-peat after beating Argentina on penalties in both the 2015 and 2016 finals.
Despite both teams having strong defensive records in this tournament, ultimately their main strength is attacking and at the odds available we think Brazil are worth taking on at a short price – this could just be the occasion when it eventually all comes right for Argentina.
