Bournemouth vs Sheffield United Match Preview
Bournemouth have a dreadful record against Sheffield United and this looks a good opportunity for the Premier League new boys to get an early point or three on the board.
The most eye-catching head-to-head stat here is how poorly Bournemouth fare when hosting the Blades – they have never beaten United on their own pitch and scored only one goal in those seven meetings!
All those games took place between 1981 and 2013, but that’s a 32-year spread and we are only six years on from the last of them so it’s not as though we are looking at ancient history.
United were promoted from the Championship in second position and while they and the team that finished ahead of them, Norwich, are the two favourites to go straight back down, the South Yorkshire club are showing plenty of ambition having broken their transfer record four times this summer on Luke Freeman, Callum Robinson, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie.
Mousset was, ironically, signed from Bournemouth, who started last season superbly but lost 19 matches out of 30 from November onwards and have again focused on signing young players this summer, most notably Philip Billing, Arnaut Danjuma and Lloyd Kelly.
Obviously United will be chomping at the bit as they begin only their second top-flight campaign since 1994 and they could just represent a touch of value to continue their club’s historical success at this venue.
