Bournemouth vs Newcastle Match Preview
Newcastle travel to Vitality Stadium for their Matchday 31 clash in good spirits after escaping the immediate danger zone in Premier League with three wins bagged in four outings. However, all three came in front of the home fans and Rafael Benitez surely has a lot on his mind, as his men struggle for points on the road.
Magpies have bagged just two on last six league trips and just the extra-time FA Cup win in Blackburn (2-4) along the way feels like a questionable confidence booster, after we’ve seen narrow losses to Tottenham (1-0) and West Ham (2-0) as well as a 1-1 draw at Wolves since then.
Bournemouth sit just three points clear of the rivals ahead of the clash and we’ve seen them end a five-match winless streak with an upset at Huddersfield (0-2) last week, where in-form Callum Wilson opened the scoresheet in the first half and Ryan Fraser added one in the second to make it a comfortable win at the John Smith’s Stadium.
Cherries have been a tougher side to beat at this ground, though, and will want to show it off on the day as well. They’ve seen Man City (0-1) snatch all three points in early March but this only ended an unbeaten streak where they beat West Ham (2-0), Chelsea (4-0) and held off Wolves (1-1) since mid-January.
We will now stick our necks out for Bournemouth to return to such a streak on Saturday and we’ll go for them to bag all three points in an important contest which could see them rejoin the mid-table, with an Away win priced at 21/20 with William Hill.
We have seen Newcastle struggling to score goals on the road and this could prove costly but also has us going for a low-scoring contest at Vitality Stadium, with Under 2.5 Goals FT at 10/11 with bet365. Cherries have based their success on some very tough defensive displays here and we now hope for another such occasion.
