Bournemouth vs Burnley Match Preview
English league football’s second and third longest-serving managers go head-to-head at the Vitality Stadium with Bournemouth backed to make home advantage count.
Eddie Howe’s decision to leave Burnley and head back to Bournemouth in October 2012 was a winner for all concerned. He remains with the Cherries more than seven years on and so does his successor in East Lancashire, Sean Dyche, with both clubs now firmly established in the Premier League.
Only Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe has been in his job longer than this duo among the 92 English league clubs and the three of them are miles clear of the rest. Indeed it’s hard to believe Jurgen Klopp is in the top five as it only seems like yesterday he was at Dortmund!
In terms of whether Howe or Dyche will come out on top this weekend, there are two big factors to consider. One is that Bournemouth have become highly unpredictable, whereas Burnley have a clearer pattern in that they are much more likely to win at home than away.
The Clarets have collected five victories at Turf Moor this term to just one on their travels, while Bournemouth ended a five-match losing streak with a 1-0 triumph away to third-placed Chelsea even with their star striker Callum Wilson having been ruled out due to injury!
On that basis, we will give Bournemouth a chance here to show their poor run is over for the time being and give further credence to the theory that Burnley are mere homeground bullies.
