Bournemouth vs Brighton Match Preview
Eddie Howe might be drinking in the ‘last chance saloon’ as Bournemouth manager – but could just preserve his job with victory in this south coast derby.
Long touted as a coach destined for bigger things, perhaps even with England, Howe is in charge of a team that have lost 10 of their last 12 Premier League matches and slipped to second bottom of the table, facing a relegation battle for the first time since being promoted to the top flight in 2015.
A new low was reached at the weekend when Bournemouth lost 1-0 away to Norwich, the only club below them. But that game turned when Steve Cook was sent off in the 31st minute for deliberate handball, conceding the decisive penalty scored by Teemu Pukki.
But despite a poor home record this term, the Cherries may just be galvanised back at Dean Court and also by the increasing seriousness of their situation. At least they have a 4-0 home win in 2020 to their credit, against Luton Town in the FA Cup.
Their visitors Brighton do not have a great record at this venue (see stats above) and also won only one of their last nine games, which hardly inspires them to be backed here at just 6/4.
Time may be running out for Howe and his prospects could hinge upon the outcome of this match. His side are given one last chance to show they are still motivated by his methods and backed to grind out a priceless success that could yet turn around their faltering campaign.
