Marseille must feel this is the season when they will finally end their 42-year wait for a victory away to Bordeaux.

For whatever reason, L’OM just cannot win in the southern French city close to the Bay of Biscay. The closest they came in recent years was in August 2010 when Anthony Modeste scored an 88th-minute equaliser for Bordeaux.

But currently, there is a big contrast between the form of the two clubs because Les Girondins are struggling, with their only success in their last 11 games being a narrow one at home to Toulouse.

Although Marseille have failed to win their last two matches, one of those was away to Paris Saint-Germain and before that they had taken 16 points from a possible 18 in Ligue 1 to considerably boost their hopes of playing European football again next season.

The catalyst has been the form of mercurial striker Mario Balotelli, who only made his debut for Marseille in late January after joining from Nice but has scored seven goals in his nine appearances so far.

Bordeaux’s home form is much better than the results they have gained on their travels this term, but they have been out of sorts since the end of January and the drought may finally come to an end in this fixture for Marseille.
