Bolivia vs Peru Predictions
Bolivia have always struggled to make an impact in South American football against the more dominant nations of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. La Verde have been Copa America champions on only one occasion way back in 1963 and they’ve only competed in the finals of three World Cups, with the most recent one being in the USA in 1994, so they are never well fancied ahead of these tournaments.
It was the most difficult possible start to the campaign for Eduardo Villegas men too as they faced the hosts and tournament favourites Brazil in the opening game. A 3-0 defeat to the Selecao means that Bolivia have now won just one of their last 17 international fixtures but they will need to pick up three points at the Maracana at odds of 7/1 with Bet365.
Peru won the hearts of many football fans at last summer’s World Cup in Russia with their vibrant fanbase and attacking play, but they were unable to make it count and crashed out of the competition in the group stages. Form since then has been shaky at best too, as manager Ricardo Gareca has attempted to bleed in some new talent to varying degrees of success ahead of the two Copa America tournaments this year and next.
Despite being expected to overcome Venezuela in their opening fixture, Blanquirroja were held to a goalless draw by Vinotinto in Porto Alegre. Although they won’t expect to take anything from Brazil in their final group stage match, the Incas know that three points here at odds of 8/15 with Ladbrokes at least as one of the better third-placed teams at the very least.
We’re expecting a low-scoring game here though. Bolivia never really threatened Brazil going forward in that opening game and whilst Peru looked strong defensively against Venezuela, they will have been highly disappointed to not get on the scoresheet in that fixture. With plenty at stake for both teams, knowing that a poor result could spell the end for their Copa America, we’re anticipating a nervy affair with under 2.5 goals scored at Bet365.
The bookies believe that Peru are the stronger of these two teams and we have to agree. Bolivia have managed just one win in their last 17 fixtures, and have failed to score in no fewer than six of their last seven international outings. After they kept a clean sheet in their opening game, the Blanquirroja defence will expect another in this game and we’re backing them to win to nil at odds of 6/5 with William Hill.
