Birmingham vs Wigan Stats
- Birmingham are unbeaten in their last five
- Wigan have lost just one of their last six
- The Latics have lost on just one of their last four visits to this ground
Birmingham continued their strong end to the season as they won 3-1 away to Rotherham to stretch their unbeaten run to five. It confirmed safety for the Midlands outfit who survived comfortably despite a nine-point penalty earlier in the campaign. They sit in 17th place and 50 points with two fixtures remaining.
At St Andrew’s, the Blues are unbeaten in their last three but have won just one of the seven which came against Leeds. Michael Morrison has netted in two of his last three appearances in front of his own fans while Lukas Jutkiewicz has two in his last three at all grounds. Their last four goals at their own place have all come in the first-half.
Wigan made it back-to-back victories and secured their own safety for the season with a 2-0 home victory over Lancashire rivals Preston. The result meant a good Easter for Athletic who defeated Leeds on Friday to make it six points from two. They now sit in 18th eight points above the drop zone with two matches remaining and they can look forward to Championship action next season.
Away from the DW Stadium, the Latics have won just two games all season though one of these came last time out at Leeds. In each of their last three and seven of their last eight on the road both teams have netted. Gavin Massey has three goals from his last six on his travels including a brace in the previous fixture.
Bookmakers make the home team strong favourites for the match but it is hard to trust either side given they have secured safety for the season. Of the results available we would be more inclined to look at the draw but believe better value can be found elsewhere.
We like the look of a couple of players to net at any time during this fixture. For the hosts, Lukas Jutkiewicz has two in his last three and really should have added to that tally against Rotherham and he looks worth backing here. For the visitors, Cheyenne Dunkley was a nuisance at set-pieces last time out and at double-figure prices could go well here.
