Birmingham vs Sheffield United Match Preview

Birmingham ended a five-game losing run at the weekend with an impressive 1-0 victory over high-flying Leeds .  The result moved them up to 17th and they should be safe though they are still just five points above Rotherham in 22nd.  After this fixture things pick up for the Midlands side who have three of their next four against teams in the bottom six.

At St Andrew’s, the Blues had gone four without a victory for picking up all three points against Leeds last time out.   Each of the last three and five of the last six at this ground have gone under 2.5 goals with three of these going under 1.5 goals.  Che Adams has bagged five goals from his last seven appearances in front of his own fans.

Sheffield United picked up a vital three points at the weekend as they won 1-0 on the road at Preston to move second.  It is starting to look a race between them and Leeds for second as they are one point ahead of their Yorkshire rivals and seven behind leaders Norwich.  None of their six remaining games are against teams in the top with ninth-placed Forest their highest ranked opponents left.

Away from Bramall Lane, the Blades are unbeaten in the last six Championship matches with three victories and three draws.  The Yorkshire outfit are defending well on the road keeping four successive clean sheets.  Three of their last four on the road have seen them win by the same 1-0 scoreline.

The home side did well to defeat Leeds at the weekend with Gary Monk getting his tactics spot on by pressing Leeds and not allowing them time before quickly releasing Che Adams on the break.  This is unlikely to work against Sheffield United though who play a different style and will be better drilled at the back.  I think the Blades to win this fixture looks a good call given their impressive recent form on the road.

If the Yorkshire outfit do come out on top it is unlikely to be a high-scoring one as that is not in their setup.  They have won three of their last four on their travels by the same 1-0 scoreline so that looks worth taking.
