Birmingham vs Preston Match Preview
Birmingham beat Charlton 1-0 on the road last time out to record a second successive league victory and a third in four. Pep Clotet has made a decent start to life in the dugout for the Midlands side though the expected goals data feels their current position flatters them.
At St Andrew’s, the Blues have won their last two (defeats of Stoke and Barnsley) and drawn with Bristol City. Lukas Jutkiewicz has found the back of the net in each of his three league appearances here this season.
Preston are coming into the match on a four-game unbeaten run winning the third one of these with a 2-0 defeat of Brentford last weekend. The result probably flattered North-End but over the course of the season the expected goals data feels they should 14 points which is one more than the 13 they have.
Away from Deepdale, the Lilywhites have struggled a little going down to defeats to Millwall and Swansea and drawing at Forest. You have to go back to the 13th March for their last road victory which is a run of seven fixtures.
North-End are favourites to come out on top here and while we could not put anyone off doing so you have to be cautious given they are without a road win in seven. Birmingham are difficult opponents at home and as such the match market looks best left alone.
A better angle of attack is both teams to score as Preston are the joint top-scorers in the division with 13 goals (along with Bristol City). They face a Blues side who have just one home clean-sheet in their last six in the league. These sides have drawn just two times from their 14 played this season and as such a smaller interest on a William Hill special that has both teams to score and the game not to end in a draw also appeals at 2/1.
