Birmingham v Nottingham Forest Match Preview
Birmingham City will have been hoping to push on for the play-offs this season following the summer hiring of highly-rated manager Garry Monk. After a disappointing end to last season following the shock decision to sack Gary Rowett, Monk had something of a rebuilding job on his hands and although that play-off dream is starting to slip away from them as the season goes on, it’s been a progressive campaign as Monk looks to rebuild his reputation after an ill-fated spell in charge of Middlesbrough last term.
The Blues have been in disappointing form in the last few weeks and come into this Saturday afternoon fixture on the back of a six game winless run which has seen the gap between themselves in the middle of the table and the play-off positions widen in term of points and an FA Cup exit at the hands of Premier League outfit West Ham United to boot. Monk will be keen for his side to bounce back and pick up a morale-boosting win here at odds of 6/5 with Coral.
Nottingham Forest have decided to go in a different direction with their new manager. Clearly unhappy with the job being done by Aitor Karanka as funds have been heavily invested in the playing squad since the summer, the Tricky Trees removed the former Middlesbrough manager and have since hired recently sacked Republic of Ireland boss and ex-Forest player Martin O’Neill who has brought along Roy Keane, another former City Ground favourite, as his assistant.
O’Neill picked up his first three points in charge of the Reds last weekend with a comfortable 3-1 home victory over Wigan Athletic and the chase for a play-off position is far from over for Forest at this point. As things stand they sit in 9th position, three places and four points away from a coveted top six spot but they’ll be keen to close that gap and put an end to some poor recent away form with a win at St Andrew’s Stadium at 11/4 with Betway.
We’re backing goals in this one. Birmingham played out a stunning 3-3 draw with Swansea City in midweek and with Lukas Jutkiewicz and Che Adams in their ranks the Blues are always good for a few goals. Nottingham Forest are likely to adopt a more attacking approach under O’Neill and we started to see that last weekend as they found the net three times themselves in that win over Wigan. Both teams to score is available at 4/5 with Coral.
Che Adams has really found his scoring boots so far this season. The Birmingham striker has found the net in his club’s last three games, including the midweek draw at the Liberty Stadium, to take his season tally to 15 goals in the Championship. The former Sheffield United man is available at 15/8 to add another to his tally here with Unibet.
