Belgium U21 vs Italy U21 Predictions
Belgium’s Under 21 side appear to have lost momentum at the worst possible moment this year. After going 13 games unbeaten over 2017 and 2018, the Young Devils finally lost their fine form by being defeated to both Denmark and France in their final warm-up fixtures for this summer’s UEFA Under 21 Championship which appears to have taken some momentum out of their squad at the worst possible moment.
After leading in their tournament opener against Poland it appeared as though those defeats against Denmark and France wouldn’t hold too much sway on performances in the tournament itself but Johan Walem’s side transpired to lose the game 3-2 and that was followed up by a 2-1 defeat to an impressive Spain outfit in their second fixture. They can still qualify with a win here at 8/1 with Coral but even with three points here progression is unlikely.
Italy are the hosts of this tournament and there’s a fairly big expectation on the shoulders of some of these youngsters. The country is one of the superpowers of international football but reached it’s nadir in failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Young stars like Federico Chiesa and Lorenzo Pellegrini are under pressure to help the Azzurri return to it’s former glory in the coming years.
A thrilling performance in their opening game against Spain saw the hosts run out 3-1 winners but their defeat to Poland in the second match came as something of a surprise. The White Eagles have all but tied up the top spot now, but three points for Luigi Di Biagio’s men will still give them every chance of qualifying as the group runner up with the best record. Can they secure those three points at 1/3 with Ladbrokes.
Belgium have looked stronger going forward than they have defensively thus far, at least finding the net three times despite losing both of their group stages matches. The Azzurrini have failed to keep a clean sheet in either of their opening two group stage games so whilst we fancy them to win, we are backing the Little Devils to get a goal. Italy to win and both teams to score is available at 13/8 with PaddyPower.
Federico Chiesa caught everyone’s eye with a stunning strike in Italy’s opening win over Spain. The Fiorentina forward already has 22 first-team goals for Viola to his name and has also managed five goals in his 13 appearances thus far for the Italian Under 21 team. He’s 23/20 with William Hill to score at any time again in this one.
