Bayern Munich are back to being clear favourites to retain their Bundesliga crown after catching Borussia Dortmund, but they face a potentially tricky test on Saturday against Wolfsburg.
Dortmund’s poor spell of form since the start of February has allowed Bayern to bridge the gap and draw level on points at the top of the table, endorsing FC Hollywood coach Niko Kovac’s assertion that his side would give BVB “a brutal fight for the title”.
But while Dortmund can now concentrate exclusively on the league following their European exit to Tottenham in midweek, Bayern must also have in mind the second leg of their tie at home to Liverpool on Wednesday which will kick off at 0-0 on aggregate.
That could open the door for Wolfsburg to give the German champions a tough examination here considering Bruno Labbadia’s team are in decent form, seventh in the table only four points off the Champions League places and with the Bundesliga’s second best away record.
We are not backing the Wolves to necessarily pull off an upset here because Bayern know what is at stake for themselves, but the visitors to the Allianz Arena may well run their illustrious hosts close and make them pull out all the stops for an important victory.
