Bayern Munich vs Union Berlin Match Preview
Bayern Munich host Union Berlin for their Matchday 9 clash on Saturday afternoon, just days after beating Olympiakos (2-3) in a thrilling Champions League clash in Greece where Robert Lewandowski kept up his great streak with a brace and Corentin Tolisso added one in the second half.
Bavarians have thus returned to the winning ways after two disappointing Bundesliga outings, which see them a point behind pace-setters Borussia Monchengladbach and 2nd placed Wolfsburg. They’ve seen Hoffenheim (1-2) snatch all three points at Allianz Arena and struggled to bounce with a 2-2 draw at Augsburg, which emphasized their struggles to keep clean sheets.
Union Berlin will now hope to capitalize as well, desperate for points to escape the immediate danger zone. They have beaten Freiburg (2-0) in front of the home crowd last week but have largely struggled for consistency in the final third, which will be worrying ahead of the trip to Munich too.
Iron Ones netted just one goal in four outings beforehand and causing an upset even at shaken Bayern feels like a mission impossible. They failed to find the net in narrow losses at Bayer Leverkusen (2-0) and Wolfsburg (1-0) on their last two trips and we now don’t see them doing much more on Saturday either.
We will thus stick with Bayern Munich to secure the important points here and we’ll go for a Home win to Nil at 19/20 with William Hill, which would still be the third clean sheet in four outings at this ground since mid-September.
We do feel Niko Kovac will want to rediscover such stability at the back and it could prove very important for their ambitions to take over the top of the table. Lewandowski has been instrumental for their moves forward and we hope to see him open the scoresheet here, as we back him to score first at 8/5 with Paddy Power.
