These clubs already know where they will stand in Monday’s draw for the Champions League round-of-16 – but both have plenty of motivation to round off their Group B campaigns with a victory.

Tottenham will be among the eight second-placed teams and must hope they get lucky by being paired with the winner of Group G – or, failing that, another meeting with Ajax, whom they beat so dramatically in last season’s semi-finals, assuming they have clinched top spot.

In terms of the aforementioned incentive for Spurs, that will be to avenge their dreadful 7-2 mauling by Bayern Munich in the reverse fixture which must have been one of the key results that served as the catalyst for Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking last month.

Jose Mourinho has just a single blemish on his record with Tottenham so far, last week’s defeat at Manchester United, but we think his side may also go down by the odd goal in three here against a Bayern side with a 100% record in the group and with first place secured.

On only six occasions before this season has a team ever won six out of six in a Champions League pool, the latest being Real Madrid five years ago, while the motivation apart from joining that exclusive club is for the German champions to return to winning ways after back-to-back Bundesliga defeats.

Spurs are backed to keep things much tighter in Munich than they did on their own pitch, but we still expect Bayern to make it six of the best and restore some confidence ahead of three crucial domestic tests before the winter break.
