Bayern Munich v Schalke Match Preview
Bayern Munich face a real fight in the remainder of the campaign to hold onto their Bundesliga crown. FC Hollywood are of course the most decorated club in German football history and they have remained the dominant force in the top tier of the league system in recent years, winning the title in the last six consecutive seasons but with just 14 games remaining in the current campaign they sit in second place, seven points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund.
Last weekend’s 3-1 away defeat at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen was a real hammer blow to Niko Kovac and his side’s chances of retaining the trophy last week and they continued to stutter in the DFB Pokal in midweek, needing extra-time to overcome Hertha Berlin away from home to progress. After two sub-par performances in the last seven days, can Die Roten return to the form expected of them by a disgruntled fanbase with three points here at 2/9 with Ladbrokes.
Schalke 04 seem to be one of several Bundesliga clubs that fluctuate between excellent and sub-standard season upon season. Although they were never real challengers to Bayern Munich’s throne last season die Knappen did perform far better than expected to finish runners-up in the league table last term, yet this year they have struggled to keep the pace with those sides chasing European football and are struggling down in the bottom half of the table as things stand.
Encouragingly they have managed to progress in the Champions League, alongside Porto, but will now have to face one of the tournament favourites Manchester City in the next round and recent form has been sketchy at best. That being said, Domenico Tedesco’s men have been tough to break down on their recent away trips having not lost in their last four games away from the VELTINS-Arena, can they provide a shock here at odds of 7/5 with Unibet.
With the home advantage we’re anticipating another victory for Bayern Munich in this game. They have shipped five goals in their two previous outings this week though and have not managed to keep a clean sheet in their last four games now. Schalke do, for all of their unpredictable form so far this season, usually carry a threat in front of goal through the likes of Guido Burgstaller and Breel Embolo so the home win and BTTS bet looks good to us at 8/5 with Betway.
