BATE Borisov vs Piast Gliwice Match Preview
BATE Borisov host Piast Gliwice for their 1st Qualifying Round Champions League clash on Wednesday evening, looking to build on their great streak of recent and capitalize on the competitive edge they have over the rivals – who only start their campaign with the trip to Borisov.
BATE have been scoring numbers of goals as they beat Shakhtyor (3-1), Sputnik (2-5), Vitebsk (3-0), and Dinamo Minsk (1-2) since mid-June, only seeing the winning streak interrupted by a goalless draw at Isloch and now having a lot to build on. They’ve been denied a ticket to the Group stage last year by PSV (6-2 on aggregate) in Play-offs and Alexey Baga will now hope his men can make it happen.
Piast Gliwice are the first test in that long run and the Polish rivals travel to Borisov Arena looking for an upset, coming off as heavy underdogs especially with an unpredictable run through their pre-season – with two draws and a win earned in three outings since mid-June.
Piastunki have seen obvious struggles to keep it together at the back as they were denied by Sered (2-2) and Jastrzebie (2-2) in June before bouncing to the winning ways with a more convincing display against Miedz Legnica (7-1) on Saturday, where they showed off as dominants in front of the home fans.
However, trip to Borisov should prove much more of a challenge and we feel they don’t have what it takes to cope with the Belarus rivals, as we stick with BATE to secure an advantage with a win priced at 3/4 with Coral – which feels like a banker bet.
We don’t see the visitors getting on the scoresheet at Borisov Arena and this would make it hard to make up for such a result in Gliwice. Still, we thus hope not to see too many goals on the day and we’re also backing Under 2.5 Goals FT, which comes at 4/7 with bet365.
