Barnsley vs Middlesbrough Match Preview
Barnsley produced a shock result at Fulham winning 3-0 to boost their survival hopes and while they plyed well the expected goals data feels they were fortunate. The Yorkshire side are still bottom of the table but the gap to safety has been cut to just six points.
At Oakwell, the Tykes are three without a victory though it is just two defeats in eight though they need to make this place a fortress if they are to have any survival hopes. You have to go back to the opening day of the season for the last time they kept a clean sheet here.
Middlesbrough suffered a 1-0 home loss and all of a sudden they are looking over the shoulder as they sit 18th and just six points above Wigan. The Teesiders were thinking of the play-offs before a poor run of four points and no victories in seven.
Away from the Riverside Stadium, Boro are three without a win but do have victories before that at West Brom and Preston. Lewis Wing has done well on his travels of late having grabbed three from his last two in the Championship.
Bookmakers are having real trouble splitting the pair ahead of this important relegation battle that pits 24th against 18th and can gut the gap between the home side to six points with a home win. The hosts are playing the better football but this seems to be reflected in the prices and as such the 90 minute match result market offers no appeal.
If the Tykes are to stay up then Cauley Woodrow will be keen and he has five in his last five in all competitions and 13 for the season. Woodrow to net at any time is the main selection here while for the visitors Lewis Wing has four in three on the road and he appeals also.
