Barnsley vs Fulham Match Preview
Barnsley booked their place in the Championship by coming second in League One last season finishing three behind Champions Luton but securing automatic promotion. Though they have lost a few key players in the summer they have kept Daniel Stendel the highly rated manager. Bookmakers think they will struggle this season and have them second-favourites for the drop.
At Oakwell, the Tykes were unbeatable last season winning 15 and drawing eight of the 23 they played in League One. Only Charlton (15) conceded a lower amount of home goals in the division though their 40 goals was the lowest of any of the top six.
Fulham are back to the Championship after just one season in the Premier League that saw them relegated despite a strong financial investment. Scott Parker showed enough when in the caretaker job at the end of the season to get the job on a full-time basis. A strong summer investment that has seen Mitrovic secured on a new deal and flanked by new signings Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro shows they mean business.
Away from Craven Cottage, the Whites struggled last season winning just one game and need to improve on this during this campaign. They conceded a joint-league high 45 road goals while their attacked netted a divisional low 12 times.
The road team will likely be a popular bet given that two divisions separated these sides last season and we can see them in many accumulators. A word of caution though it might take a while for them to gel and Oakwell is a fortress as shown with no defeats last season. A better bet is to take the game to be level at half-time as the Tykes showed in League One they are tough to break down while eeking out a little extra value by taking things to be all-square after 60 minutes also makes sense.
