Barnsley v Wycombe Match Preview
Barnsley are hoping to secure promotion to the Championship this season. The club’s ambitious owners moved to follow in the footsteps of clubs like Huddersfield Town and Norwich City in the summer by bringing in a German head coach and like David Wagner and Daniel Farke before him, Daniel Stendel is enjoying a degree of success so far with his side sitting in second place in the table ahead of this tie, six points behind leaders Luton Town with a game in hand.
Recent form has been as strong as you would expect for one of the most talented squads in the league and a 1-4 thumping of Gillingham away from home last weekend extended their unbeaten run to six games in all competitions. In fact, the last team to beat the Tykes in the league was Wycombe back in December. We suspect that Stendel’s men will be keen to continue their fine run and exact revenge in this fixture by winning at odds of 1/2 with Betway.
Wycombe Wanderers make the trip to Barnsley looking comfortable in the top half of the table ahead of this weekend’s fixtures. Despite being owned by the Supporters Trust and thus not always having the same funds as their rivals, the Chairboys have performed above expectations in the last few years thanks in no small part to the management of the hugely popular Gareth Ainsworth who led the side to a long-awaited promotion finally last term.
After a stuttering start, the Buckinghamshire outfit now appear to have really found their feet at the level above and even enjoyed a five game unbeaten streak of late which included wins over Bristol Rovers and Doncaster Rovers but came to a crashing end with a 3-0 defeat to league leaders Luton Town last time out. Can they raise their game this time against another promotion contender to pick up a surprise win at odds of 6/1 with Ladbrokes.
We’re anticipating a rather simple victory for the Tykes in this game. The Yorkshire outfit have been racking up the goals of late, with this six game unbeaten streak seeing them win no fewer than four games by more than one goal and with Cauley Woodrow and Alex Mowatt in the side they’re always a threat in front of goal. After the Chairboys’ heavy loss against Luton last week we’re backing them to struggle again here and lose by more than one goal at odds of William Hill
Star striker Kieffer Moore is set for a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in that win at Priestfield last time out. Thankfully for the Tykes, they’ve recently picked up striker Cauley Woodrow from Fulham and he bagged twice in that win in Kent to take his tally to four goals in seven games for his new club, so we’re backing him to score at any time again here at evens with Betfred.
