Barcelona vs Mallorca Match Preview
Mallorca, back in the Spanish top flight after a six-year absence, have still to adjust to life on the road – and that is unlikely to change when they visit Barcelona this weekend.
The club from the Balearics were promoted via the play-offs last season and while they have started brightly at home with four wins so far, their away form is frankly dismal.
Vicente Moreno’s side have suffered six defeats out of six, scoring only three goals, and it would be a huge upset if their first point on the mainland came against the champions.
Barcelona, after an indifferent start to the campaign and a shock loss at Levante last month, are firing again – and especially Lionel Messi, fresh from collecting the Ballon d’Or for the sixth time.
The Argentine maestro has bagged 11 goals in his last 10 games, including a hat-trick against Celta Vigo and the winner at Atletico Madrid last Sunday, and is the main reason why Barca occupy their familiar position at the top of the table going into this weekend.
With top spot in their Champions League group assured, Barcelona do not have to worry too much about their midweek trip to Inter Milan and that spells bad news for Mallorca, who look set for another emphatic defeat on their travels.
