Barcelona vs Levante Match Preview
Levante threatened to derail Barcelona’s chances of a Treble earlier this season, but are unlikely to prevent the first leg of the trophy hat-trick from being completed on Saturday.
Barcelona have had a couple of scares in the Copa del Rey this season, losing a couple of first-leg games away from home, and one of those was at Levante where they trailed 2-0 before Philippe Coutinho scored a late penalty to give the tie a different complexion.
Since then, Barca have gone to reach their ninth Copa del Rey Final in 11 years, they have a Champions League semi-final against Liverpool coming up and will retain La Liga title this weekend – possibly before this match if Atletico Madrid lose at home to Real Valladolid.
Victory at Camp Nou for Ernesto Valverde’s side will be enough to crown them as champions again regardless of other results, and put them a significant step along the road to emulating the Treble feat of the Luis Enrique-managed Barcelona team four years ago.
Confidence in the Levante camp will be higher as a result of their first win in 10 games, a 4-0 home thrashing of Real Betis on Wednesday in which former Crystal Palace midfielder Jose Campana scored the first two goals.
But the Valencia-based club have a poor record away to the Blaugrana and are expected to be powerless to stop the title celebrations from beginning in earnest.
