Barcelona vs Leganes Predictions

Barcelona find themselves embroiled in another La Liga title race with arch rivals Real Madrid this season. As things stand, los Blancos are the team with the lead as Barcelona’s defeat at Valencia over the weekend allowed the team from the capital to open up a three point gap over their El Clasico opponents – and to make matters worse, Blaugrana really do seem to be in a state of flux following the hiring of new boss Quique Setien.

Although the 61 year old started his reign with back-to-back victories, the second was a very narrow win over minnows Ibiza in the Copa Del Rey and attention reverts to that competition again on Thursday night as the Catalonians host relegation-threatened Leganes at Camp Nou. Setien knows a big performance is needed here given the early question marks over the start of his tenure – the home win is 1/6 with BetVictor.

Leganes managed to avoid the relegation dogfight in La Liga last season with a comfortable 13th placed finish, but this year it’s been difficult at the bottom of the table. Although recent form has been slightly improved with just one defeat in their last nine in all competitions, los Pepineros currently occupy 19th place in the table, with three points separating them from Mallorca who are hovering in the safe spot above the relegation zone as things stand.

This recent form has been a real blessing for Javier Aguirre’s side though as not only has it kept their chances of remaining in the top tier alive, it’s also seen them progress in the Copa Del Rey. Having already beaten FC Andorra, Real Murcia and Ebro away from home to reach this stage, can they now spring a shock in Catalonia to progress to the Quarter Finals with a win at odds of 18/1 with Ladbrokes.

Barcelona do not seem to be getting to grips with Setien’s philosophy in the early stages of the new manager’s spell in charge, but they have still ground out two narrow victories and they should have enough in the tank to overcome a Leganes outfit that are struggling towards the foot of the table with good reason this year. Neither side have been racking up the goals of late so we’re going for the home win and under 2.5 goals bet at PaddyPower.

If anyone is to find the net in this game then Antoine Griezmann is likely to be among the goalscorers. The French international endured a relatively slow start to life in Catalonia, but he’s bagged six times in his last ten games – including two in the last round of the Copa Del Rey against Ibiza – so we’re backing him to get on the scoresheet again here.
