Ballymena vs Malmo Match Preview
Ballymena United have been all around the place as they suffered a thrashing 7-0 loss at Malmo, now hosting the Swedish rivals hoping to leave a better impression in front of the home fans and at least bid their farewell to the competition in good spirits despite next to no chances of making up for the first-leg disappointment.
Braidmen have thus seen a four-match unbeaten streak through the pre-season and the Preliminary Round (where they beat Faroe Islands’ NSI 2-0 on aggregate) ended, failing to cope with Swedish dominants who do look themselves in Allsvenskan this term – after an underwhelming 2018 campaign.
Indeed, Malmo top the league table and will now want to build on the consistency as many argue the respect for the Irish rivals was there even though the competition was all but over in the first half already. They kept going and we do expect them motivated at the Showgrounds as well, promising a strong challenge.
Di Blae have struggled to turn clashes their way on the road more recently and we’ve seen them earn just one win in four trips since mid-May, with three draws and just two goals scored along the way. We thus don’t feel we’re in for as many goals now but we do see them turning this one their way as well.
We will thus back Malmo to snatch a win at the Showgrounds and although we don’t see them putting on as convincing a display as we’ve seen in the first leg, we’ll still back the visitors to snatch a win to Nil – which comes at 10/11 with bet365.
Indeed, Ballymena will not want to be humiliated in front of the home crowd and we do expect them to give the rivals a run for their money. With that in mind, we’re now sticking our necks out for a low-scoring clash with Under 3.5 Goals FT at 13/8 with Paddy Power, which feels like a lively longshot.
