AZ Alkmaar look set to finish in the Europa League play-off places in this year’s Eredivisie table. Although not traditionally one of the major forces of Dutch football, AZ have won the league on two occasions and have looked more threatening in recent years, reaching the quarter final stage of the Europa League itself just a few short years ago and after last year’s impressive third place finish they currently occupy fourth in the table with 25 games on the board.

Although they’ve been unable to keep the pace with PSV Eindhoven and Ajax at the top of the table, AZ have been difficult to beat throughout the campaign and in front of their own fans they’ve been in particularly strong form of late. John van den Brom’s men have won their last seven matches at the AFAS Stadion in all competitions and as such, some may see the value in backing the hosts to cause an upset in this game at 19/5 with William Hill.

Ajax are enjoying a terrific campaign in Europe at the very least. After a thrilling group stages saw them progress alongside Bayern Munich and remaining unbeaten in six, they then came from behind to overcome the holders Real Madrid in the Round of 16 after a stunning 1-4 victory at the Bernabeu. In the league, they haven’t been quite as consistent despite some terrific performances and currently they occupy second place in the table.

With a pretty lengthy gap from third place, de Godenzonen are very much in the title race as they sit just two points behind current leaders PSV Eindhoven. Erik ten Hag’s men seem to have the momentum too as they’ve won their last six matches in all competitions ahead of this trip to Alkmaar at the weekend.
