Austria vs Slovenia Match Preview

Austria host Slovenia for their EURO 2020 Qualifiers clash on Friday evening looking for their first points in Group G, after seeing a narrow 0-1 home loss to Poland and a thrashing 4-2 loss in Israel as a brace from Marko Arnautovic proved insufficient at Sammy Ofer Stadium.

Das Team have thus seen a disappointing start of their campaign and putting it behind them will be crucial for their ambitions to make the top 2 cut, already six points behind pace-setters Poland and four behind 2nd placed Israel. Franco Foda has to find a quick fix and we do see them finally bouncing back to the winning ways.

Slovenia have been quite unpredictable and we’ve seen an underwhelming Nations League C campaign, where they finished rock-bottomed in a group shared with Norway, Bulgaria, and Cyprus. They’ve extended their streak of draws with points earned against Israel (1-1) and Macedonia (1-1), though, which will make points here just as important.

Matjaz Kek’s men have proven themselves tough to beat but still saw slip-ups at the back, which saw them concede second-half equalizer on both occasions. They will want more at Worthersee Stadion but getting it should prove an even tougher task, despite Austria’s struggles to keep it together at the back.
