Atletico Madrid vs Valencia Match Preview

Atletico Madrid host Valencia for their Matchday 9 clash on Saturday afternoon, as the sides return to La Liga after the International break and surely both have high hopes of extending their respective unbeaten streaks in the Spanish top flight. We have been used to very tight contests between the sides lately and we now expect another such occasion.

Atleti have enjoyed nothing but such clashes ahead of the break and they went on it with a streak of five clean sheets, where they beat Mallorca (0-2) and Lokomotiv Moscow (0-2) but were also held off by Celta Vigo (0-0), Real Madrid (0-0), and Valladolid (0-0). They will now want more in front of the home fans and we expect Diego Simeone’s men in a great mood.

Valencia have seen a troubled and quite unpredictable spell of form early in the new campaign but they have recuperated, finally connecting two league wins in a row as they beat Athletic Bilbao (0-1) and Deportivo Alaves (2-1) – despite a Champions League loss in the hands of Ajax (0-3) seen along the way.

Los Che have thus enjoyed their share of narrow clashes on the road this term and we’ll now surely see them in great shape as well, despite struggles with injuries setting back Celades. They hardly have a great history when taking on Atletico in Madrid and this could be more worrying, as they search for the first win since 2011.

We don’t see them making it happen on the day either and we’ll now rather back Atleti to build on their fine defensive displays of recent, going for a Home win at 7/10 with William Hill – which has caught the eye of many big hitters despite a tough challenge looming.

We do feel they’ll have to base their success on such a defensive approach once again, though, and we’ll now also back the home side to keep a clean sheet here – which comes at 23/20 with William Hill. This would be the sixth in a row and as such, looks like a great approach to the fixture as well.
