Atletico Madrid vs Girona Match Preview
Atletico Madrid host Girona for their Matchday 30 clash midway through the week and just days after returning to the winning ways with a convincing win at Deportivo Alaves (0-4), where Saul, Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata, and Thomas Partey all made it on the scoresheet.
Atleti have seen a disappointing Champions League exit in the hands of Juventus (3-0) and a narrow 2-0 loss at Athletic Bilbao in two outings ahead of the International break, which made such a display crucial for Diego Simeone’s men – as they try to cope with pace-setters Barcelona who still sit ten points in the clear.
Girona have proven themselves a very tough nut to crack for Atletico already and they now hope for more of the same, after edging past the rivals in Copa del Rey thanks to a thriller 3-3 draw at this ground. However, they now also have a risk of dropping into an immediate danger zone hanging above their heads and this could mean trouble.
Gironistes have seen a narrow 1-2 loss to Athletic Bilbao last week as the rivals completed a second-half comeback, meaning their second loss in three games. However, they’ve been very tough to score against on the road and now look for their fifth away win in a row – having beaten Real Madrid (1-2), Rayo Vallecano (0-2), Barcelona (0-1), and Leganes (0-2) across competitions.
We don’t see the visitors causing an upset now, though, and we’ll now rather stick with Atletico Madrid to turn another narrow occasion their way with a Home win to Nil, which comes at an enticing 10/11 with Paddy Power.
We have seen Atleti finally looking themselves at the back and with the hope we’re now in for more of the same, we expect a very narrow occasion between the sides. Girona will surely do their bit in making it such a contest as many rate Under 2.5 Goals FT buying money for old rope at 4/6 with William Hill.
